Midfielder John Veron announces retirement at 36

Former Chelsea and Man Utd centre half John Veron (a.k.a. The Witch) has announced this week his retirement at the age of 36.

Veron played for serveral teams during his long carreer, including the above mentioned as well as Internazionale de Milan and Sampdoria (Italy), and both Animals of La Plata and Mouth Juniors in Argentina. However, his best performance was playing for the National Team at the Japan-Korea 2002 World Cup, where he lead England to quarterfinals sending home the all-time rival Argentina in first round

The Witch's last match will take place next Sunday, when Animals of La Plata will be playing home against Racing Club. Right after the match he will fly back to London to receive a medal of honor from Queen Elizabeth. A great recection is expected at Heathrow Airport, where a huge banner with the words "Thanks you Johnny for standing with the Union Jack behind enemy lines" will be placed to welcome the hero.
